Emergencies >> Urinary tract obstruction
Background:
Tumors (primary tumors, metastases) compress the urinary tract
Symptoms:
Oliguria/anuria, Pain in the region of bladder or kidneys
Diagnosis and therapy:
- Physicial examination
- Ultrasound: Full bladder? Distended ureters? Renal congestion?
- Urology consult (if neccessary for internal / external drainage)
- In case of bladder dysfunction, place catheter. If catheter cannot be inserted due to obstruction, consider suprapubic puncture (use ultrasound and a venous catheter for fast relief)
- Treatment of underlying condition
- Balance fluids (input/output)
